In the July 2024 Fusion update we were introduced to the brand new Spun Profile tool. To be honest, I'm not sure how often I'll be calling on the this tool but it's definitely one of those to keep in your back pocket for when you need it.
The way this works, is that if you have a 3D geometry, you can get the profile the geometry would leave if it were spun around a specific axis.
You may be thinking that you can simply project the body to get the same result.
However, projection doesn't take into account the spinning profile, it simply leaves an outline of the silhouette that would be cast behind the object. Or in the case of an Intersect, it would leave the resulting profile where body splits the sketch plane.
Watch the video above where I demonstrate getting the spun profile by using Projection vs the new Spun Profile tool. Let me know if you have any questions below or if you can think of a useful practical application.
The Spun Profile tool can be found while in Sketching mode under the
Create menu - Project / Include - Spun Profile.
